Announcing the Results of the 2004 TPQSO Party!

40th Annual TPQSO Party

The 2004 Results Are In!

The Telephone Pioneer QSO Party, while not setting any records in the number of participants, showed a good increase in the number of logs over 2003. The number of logs received was 129, an increase of 24%, with 48 chapters represented. Our Canadian friends made a nice showing, as indicated by their strong presence in their 22 logs submitted.

As always the comments in the soapbox reflect the enjoyment and sense of participation in Telephone Pioneering that takes place in the TPQSO party. The band conditions on the first weekend in December are always somewhat less than the best, due to the early sunsets at that time of the year, which affect the higher frequency bands. This year we had less benefit from sunspot cycle therefore the higher frequency bands closed down early. Our friends who operate the weather event, contributed to the great deal of activity seen on twenty meters. It was nice to exchange our weather information with them. Unfortunately their contacts do not count! I am glad to see that many of us when we get the question, what is a "Telephone Pioneer," take time out and explain the meaning of Telephone Pioneering.

If you have any suggestions, on how the TPQSO party could be improved, please let me know. I do not see any great changes in the rules coming up. There may be changes in the chapter names as the TelecomPioneer chapters follow along with the changes in the corporate realignment of the telecommunications industry.

Many thanks to the chapter coordinators, who always do a great job in getting the word out to their members in their local chapter. We also appreciate the "word of mouth"; in passing along the information to would be operators who otherwise might have missed the announcement. Congratulations to all and thanks to all of those who were able to operate and make the contacts, that holds the TPQSO party together.

Telephone Pioneers & CQ-WE

There are two stellar events that serve the common interests of Amateur Radio followship in the telephone industry: The annual CQ WE (CQ Western Electric) event provides the chance to renew contacts with your friends from the old Bell System companies. The Telephone Pioneer QSO Party does the same with all Amateur Radio Telephone Pioneers. All operators are invited to take part in both events.

Contact your local Telephone Pioneer Chapter for information on becoming a Telephone Pioneer, or visit the Telephone Pioneers' website at <www.Telephone-Pioneers.org>
